We are delighted to have these amazing interns as part of our team throughout 2020:
‘I am currently studying Fashion Marketing and Retail at Heriot Watt University and have a keen interest in digital marketing. I have a drive to work with and help those companies and charities that are making a difference and raising awareness such as SOHTIS.’
‘Working with SOHTIS has been an incredible and educational experience and has allowed me to do what I love to do for an organisation that is refreshingly open to new ideas to help them grow. Staff were open, helpful and clear that no idea was too big or too small and throughout my internship I was given the freedom to exercise and practice my skills. This internship has been a valuable experience and has equipped me with with new skills that will help me in my future.’
‘I have just finished my 3rd year of a BSc Geography degree and am about to start a summer internship with SOHTIS, as a student involved in helping those from underprivileged backgrounds through university societies and christian volunteering I was delighted to be offered a position with SOHTIS. I was shocked to learn how prevalent human trafficking in our society is, it is an issue we must spread the word about.’
‘I have been so fortunate being able to intern with SOHTIS, and helping to create a campaign which will hopefully open many eyes to human trafficking in Scotland. I have been able to develop my creativity and imagination through creating a resource pack for children in collaboration with the development manager. Throughout my time I felt really supported, whilst also free to explore my own ideas. I certainly feel inspired to carry on raising awareness after my internship. Overall my confidence levels in working from home and individually has soared over the course of the internship, I believe this experience will help me in the future as we move to more virtual means of working.’
I am going into my final year of an MA Modern Languages (Arabic and Spanish) and International Relations at the University of St. Andrews. I have a keen interest in working in the third sector and I am excited to be able to contribute to the efforts of SOHTIS in tackling human trafficking and exploitation as well as supporting survivors.
Through my role as research intern I hope to continue to raise my own awareness as well as that of others about the signs of potential human trafficking and the methods used to carry it out, so as to better inform actions towards identification and support of survivors.
